The Largest Natural Limestone Cave


Gua Tempurung, is located in Gopeng, Perak, and can be reached from the North-South Highway by exiting through the Gopeng Interchange (about 25 km south of Ipoh). You then take Federal Route 1 and proceed south about 2 km until Kampung Gunung Mesah. Turn left and drive through the kampung road for about 4 km. This kampung road can support heavy vehicles including buses. As you drive through this kampung area you begin to see the limestone hills in the distance. Approaching the caves is a very mystical experience with the mist hovering above the hills.
Believed to have existed since early 8000 B.C., Gua Tempurung is probably the largest natural limestone structure in Malaysia. Explore Perak's best-kept secret, the Tempurung Caves. One of the most majestic white marble and limestone towers in Malaysia. Concealed within the massif structure is an intricate system of caves filled with various combed dimensions. Known to the locals as Gua Tempurung, the name conjures images of mystery and intrigue that ensures a peek into its deep and dark secrets.
It comprises of five huge domes with cielings resembling cocunut shells. Each of these domes have diffrent calcium formations and marble that exist in differing tempratures and water levels. These caves are famous for its breathtaking gallery of stalagmites, stalactites and other amazing rock formations that are superb speleological wonders, found only in this part of the world.
There are various tours into the caves being the main attraction here. These caves are located under the limestone hills and form tunnels that runs from east to west, nearly 1.9km in length. Visitors can experience these tours with specific requirements of prior preparation. Certain tours such as the River Adventure Tours require visitors to bring a change of clothes and shoes. Torch lights and safety helmets are available for rent.

Gua Tempurung means coconut nut shell cave. Although Ipoh is not a popular holiday destination, once you visited Ipoh you will start thinking of coming again. Here you can discover many beautiful hidden waterfalls, white water, fire fox, hot springs, delicious local food, famous Ipoh coffee, cheap and clean homestay and many more from nearby towns that offer water team parks, visit the endanger species orang Utan in Lake-town and in Taiping Zoo That's why you can find so many Japan and Korea tourists here. Although Ipoh is not a popular destination, here you can discover many hidden waterfalls, hot springs, white water, flying fox, beautiful natural limestone caves, educational tin museum, riverfront tricycle ride, famous local food, fruits and white coffee, clean and cheap homestay, spend time with the endanger species Orang Utan, giant butterfly. once you visited Ipoh, you'll start thinking coming again.
